Just as dollars are used in the U.S and Naira in Nigeria, Ether is used to pay for computational processes. In other words, it’s the currency within the EVM.
A unit is like a metric scale, but in this case, it refers to a denomination. So Ether units are denominations of Ether used to pay for computational processes within the EVM.
In the above image, we’ll notice that the smallest unit is wei, and the largest is ether. Although they have their separate names, they can also be measured or counted in wei.
