# What is a Node
It's the **autonomous computing element** or the atomic unit for creating distributed systems.

Typically, a Node has the following resources:

1. Computing Power, i.e., CPU(s)
2. Memory, i.e., RAM
3. Persistent Storage, i.e., Disks
4. Connection to other nodes via Network Interface Card (NIC).

This means it's a computer and a distributed system is a collection of connected computers. Each machine has it's own Operating System and resources, and so it's autonomous.
