Let’s face it, bad things happen in software engineering, often when you least expect it. Servers go down, there are spikes in traffic, you receive networking errors. Luckily, you can avoid these problems. Enter chaos engineering.
Chaos engineering is where you try to find the limits of a system and simulate adverse effects that might happen. These simulations then help you to determine the best way to improve your system and build up its resiliency.
This course is divided into various sections to get you used to the different types of experiments you can run in chaos engineering. You will start by learning how to destroy application instances in order to show you the importance of scaling, fault tolerance, and high availability.
You will then dive deep into other types of experiments such as destroying a network, draining and deleting nodes, and testing availability. Towards the end of the course, you will learn how to run experiments in a Kubernetes cluster.

Kubernetes Chaos Engineering

## Who is this module for?

This module is for anyone who has knowledge of Kubernetes production and release. It is required to have prior knowledge of Kubernetes to get the hang of the concepts of this module.

## Module structure

This module has _nine_ chapters, namely:

1. __Introduction to Kubernetes Chaos Engineering:__

    This chapter introduces us to _Chaos Engineering_. It also teaches the principles and the process, and the checklist.

2. __Defining Requirements:__

    This chapter goes through the requirements guideline of the tool choice and the installation process of the Chaos Toolkit. 

3. __Destroying Application Instances:__

    This chapter goes through the process of terminating application instances and then probing phases and conditions to make the application fault-tolerant. 

4. __Experimenting with Application Availability:__

    This chapter teaches us about the validation of an application. It also teaches us to validate application health and availability. 

5. __Obstructing and Destroying Network:__

    This chapter introduces us to the `Istio` plugin. It also teaches us how to abort network requests and how they can help to make the application resilient to partial network failures. It also teaches us to simulate and run denial of service attacks.

6. __Draining and Deleting Nodes:__

    This chapter teaches us about draining, uncordoning, and deleting worker nodes. It also teaches us how to make nodes drainable and destroying cluster zones. 

7. __Creating Chaos Experiment Reports:__

    This chapter introduces us to the experiments journal. It also teaches us how to create a journal and creating multi-experimental reports.

8. __Running Chaos Experiments Inside a Kubernetes Cluster:__

    This chapter teaches us how to set up a Chaos Toolkit in a Kubernetes cluster. It also teaches us about the types of experiment executions, how to run those executions, and sending experiment notifications. 

9. __Executing Random Chaos:__

    This chapter explores different dashboards such as Grafana and Kiali. It also teaches how to prepare for termination of instances, termination random application instances, disrupting network traffic, and termination random nodes.
