Over the last year, the conversation around generative AI has slowly but surely changed. We are no longer debating whether large language models (LLMs) can write code, summarize documents, or explain concepts. That debate is settled. The real question today is how these models behave when we ask them to act and not just respond.
The simultaneous release of Claude Opus 4.6 by Anthropic and GPT-5.3 Codex by OpenAI on February 5, 2026, makes this shift in expectations almost impossible to ignore. Both models are positioned as agentic systems, designed to plan, reason, iterate, and complete meaningful work across multiple steps. Yet, despite targeting similar developer workflows, they embody very different philosophies.
