What is the ActiveX data object (ADO) record object?
The ActiveX Data Object (ADO) module is a programming model that enables programs in C++ and Visual Basic to connect to a database or SQL server.
It includes several types of objects, including the record object. The record object holds a row in a RecordSet, a directory, or a file from a system.
Record objects allow access to data sets where the number of columns and/or the data types are different from row to row.
The record object has certain methods, properties, and collections associated with it, which are described below.
Methods
-
Open: Opens the existing record object or creates a new file or directory. -
Close: Closes the record object. -
Cancel: Cancels the execution of an asynchronous method call. -
CopyRecord: Copies a record to another location. -
DeleteRecord: Deletes a file or directory. -
MoveRecord: Moves a file or directory to another location. -
GetChildren: Returns the Recordset object where each row represents the child of the current record.
Properties
-
Source: Points out the source of the object by returning a value that signals to the record object’s entity. -
State: Returns the state of a record object, specifying whether the object is open or closed. -
Mode: Sets or returns the permissions for modifying the data in a record object. -
ActiveConnection: Sets or returns the Connection object associated with the record object. -
ParentURL: Returns the absolute URL of the parent record of the current record object. -
RecordType: A read-only property that returns the type of a record object that is a value of typeRecordTypeEnum.
Collections
