What is the fluid grid layout in PWA?

PWA stands for Progressive Web Application, which operates on web and mobile devices. It combines the best features of websites and mobile applications. It provides a better user experience by offering the following features:

  • Like other native apps, can be installed on users’ devices

  • Provides offline access

  • Normally has fast loading times

  • Has responsive designs to adapt to different screen sizes

  • Is engaging because notifications can be pushed to the users

Since the key feature of PWAs is their ability to operate on different devices, they must be responsive to incorporating different screen sizes. For this, fluid grid layout comes in handy.

Fluid grid layout

The fluid grid layout is a design approach used in web development and responsive designs. Its main purpose is to create visually optimal layouts that adapt to the screen size, whether accessed on a large desktop screen, smartphone device, or tablet.

In fluid grids, the columns and content areas take up the percentage of the available width instead of fixed pixel values. Moreover, developers use media queries to add breakpoints to ensure an optimized user experience by adjusting elements that need to be changed in order to fit the screen size.
