Camera and Laser Line Calibration

To reconstruct an object topography, for each $x$, where $x$is the horizontal pixel coordinate in the camera’s image, we need the parameters $a$ and $b$ that allows us to compute the height:

Here, $Y$ is the height in millimeters, $y$ is the vertical pixel coordinate of the point in the camera’s image where the laser hits the object surface, and $(a,{\space}b)$ are the parameters of the affine relation between $Y$ and $y$.

In this lesson, we’ll learn how to compute these parameters. To achieve this goal, we’ll scan a calibration object, which is an object built with care and whose dimensions are known with sufficient precision.
