Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform, JavaScript runtime environment that executes JavaScript code outside of a web browser. 

In this module, you'll start by understanding the inner workings of Node.js. More specifically, you’ll explore its features, how event loops work, and how multithreading works. You’ll then move on to the fundamentals of Node.js like file systems, global objects, and the Buffer class.  In the latter half of the module, you’ll explore more advanced concepts like modules, events, and packages. By the end, you will get hands-on with Node.js and create your own food delivery web application. 

You will have a new, in-demand skill to put on your resume and a cool project to add to your portfolio.

A Beginner-Level Guide to Node.js

## Who is the module for?

This module is for anyone who is well-versed in JavaScript. While we will, primarily, be focusing on the features pertaining to Node.js, the work will all be carried out in JavaScript. You should have basic knowledge of HTML and CSS since we will also be working with these languages as we move towards making web applications.

## Module structure

This module contains _five_ chapters, namely:

1. __Getting Started__

   This chapter formally introduces Node.js. It also explains some key features of Node.js. Later, you will also learn about the blocking and unblocking processes.

2. __Fundamentals__

   This chapter discusses the fundamental concepts of Node.js. It explains using various input methods, console module, `Buffer` class, events, and file handling.

3. __Advanced Topics__

   This chapter discusses the advanced concepts of Node.js. It provides information regarding the `os` module, `process` object, `net` module, UDP module, and HTTP module.

4. __Packages__

   This chapter explains the importance of packages in backend development. You'll learn about the `package.json` file and how to publish a package to `npm`.

5. __Project__

   This chapter helps you explore the process of creating a barebones Node.js application. You will learn how to serve multiple pages with the HTTP server. This chapter brings a fully functioning Node.js application for you to explore.
