In this module, you'll learn about the fundamental concepts of databases, why and when they're used, what relational databases are, and entity-relationship diagrams. You will also be exposed to techniques like normalization that help to increase the efficiency of databases.

This module is designed for users who have no experience with database systems. It will introduce users to the different concepts and techniques that are used in designing a database management system.

## Module structure

This module contains _seven_ main chapters:

1. __Fundamental Concepts__

   This chapter delves deep into the fundamentals of database systems, along with some examples.

2. __Data Modeling__

   This chapter explains the first step in database design, i.e., data modeling.

3. __Entity-Relationship Data Model__

   This chapter explains the components of the ER diagram in detail. You'll learn how to put together different components to make an ER diagram.

4. __The Relational Data Model__

   This chapter provides detailed knowledge on different concepts surrounding the relational database model. You will learn about _keys_, _constraints_, and _operations_ regarding relational databases.
  
5. __Functional Dependencies__

   This chapter focuses on the rules and types of dependencies. You'll learn how to represent dependencies in your database schemas.

6. __Normalization__

    This chapter explains how to remove functional dependencies using a process called _normalization_.

7. __Types of Databases__

    This chapter discusses the importance of databases in web development. It explains two basic categories of databases: SQL and NoSQL.
