Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform, JavaScript runtime environment that executes JavaScript code outside of a web browser. This module is your guide for learning the fundamentals of Node.js.

We’ll start by understanding the inner workings of Node.js. More specifically, explore its features, how event loops work, and how multithreading works. We’ll then move on to the fundamentals of Node.js, like file systems, global objects, and the Buffer class.

In the latter half of the module, we’ll explore more advanced concepts like modules, events, and packages. At the end of this module, we’ll get hands-on with Node.js and create our own food delivery web application.

By the end of this module, you’ll have a new, in-demand skill to put on your resume and a cool project to add to your portfolio.

While making the food delivery app, using just Node.js is certainly possible; however, it is often easier and better to use packages to make applications that are robust and powerful. In the demo below we are using `express` for handling routes and serving to different URLs. To store our information, we use MongoDB to serve as a database. Node.js has a package named `mongoose` that makes working with MongoDB a breeze. Finally, for the front-end, we are using `react`, as it allows us to serve dynamic web pages efficiently.
