# Power of a Number

In this lesson, we'll learn how to find the power of a number using recursion.

## We'll cover the following

## What does “Power of a Number” mean?

The **power** (or **exponent**) $a$, of a number $x$, represents the number of times $x$ needs to be multiplied by itself.

$x$ to the power $a$ is the product of $x$ with itself $a$ times!

It’s written as a small number to the right and above the *base* number.

For example, if the base number is $2$ and the exponent value is $3$, we represent this as follows:

$2^3 = 8$
