How to decide between competing analyses
We’ll often be faced with different possible ways to analyze our data, and various methods may have specific pros and cons. Our job is to pick the statistical analysis that does the best job of representing and interpreting our data. Getting us to the point where we know how to evaluate our data and make that decision is one of the primary goals of this course.
Sometimes, there will be two different models that may essentially be equivalent. They may fit equally well, and they may give us very similar answers about the significance of our predictors. Sometimes, we might have to choose amongst competing models that give us different answers about our predictors’ supposed effectiveness. How do we decide which model to go with?
