Test the Learner

Learn how to add a quiz to help learners revise and retrieve knowledge of taught concepts.

Test the learner

Educative provides various ways to help learners recap and retain the taught concepts, identify knowledge gaps, and build learning confidence. They are shown as follows:

Quiz widget

You can use the Quiz widget to add quizzes to your course. Open the widget menu and select the Quiz widget under the EXERCISES tab. Create multiple choice quiz questions to test the learner’s knowledge in a fun way!

For detailed information, explore the lesson on Quiz Widget in the Author Guide.

If you are looking to design structured questions or give hints to answers, consider using the Q/A Widget or Hint Widget.

Tips

Here are some tips to help you design a quiz that enhances the learning experience.

  • You can add quizzes at the end of every chapter to help the users evaluate their understanding of the concepts. If you are creating a mini-course, you can add a quiz lesson at the end of the course.

  • In case a question involves a code, it should be written inside backticks or should be syntax-highlighted. Also, when you are asking the user to dry run a code and select the right output, make sure you have run the code once in the compiler to make it error-free.

  • Make sure the quiz questions are relevant and should test the reader’s knowledge properly. Every quiz should have a minimum of 4-5 questions.

Assessments

An assessment is a set of questions that can be used to test the knowledge of your readers. Think of it as a mini-exam that users can take. A course can contain multiple assessments.

Passing the assessments of a course allows users to achieve course completion certificates. Hence, it is a very effective way of attracting users to your course.

Note: It is highly recommended that you create at least one assessment in your course. Ideally, the assessment(s) should test the concepts covered in the course.

Adding an assessment

An assessment can be placed after any category. To create a new assessment, go to the course Collection Editor page and click on Add Assessment button. It will be beside the Add Category button:

An Untitled Assessment will be created below the latest category. Click on the edit icon to edit the assessment:

Question type

There are four types of questions available in assessments:
