Responsible AI Practices: Privacy
AI systems should respect privacy.
Unless you have been living in a cave or totally out of touch with tech news, I’m sure that you can recall the Cambridge Analytica scandal — the poster child for privacy violations and how data can be misused.
Cambridge Analytica purchased Facebook data on tens of millions of Americans without their knowledge to psychologically hack U.S. voters and get Donald Trump elected as president. Facebook allowed a third-party app to access not only users’ data but to mine information about their friends as well. If Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, had a time machine, there are high chances that he’d want to revisit 2012, a time when he had given the permission to let such actions happen because this scandal damaged Facebook’s reputation severely and has left a scar that the company is still dealing with!
