Build an Outline
Let's see how to build an outline for your course.
Brainstorming
The following pointers will help you when coming up with an outline for your course.
Prerequisties
Get a clear idea of what the course requires as a background. This would also help in identifying the prerequisites of a course.
List of topics
Come up with a list of topics that you want to cover. Take inspiration from existing books or courses, but think about how you want to be different.
Cohesivness
-
The list of topics should be cohesive, i.e., should fall under a consistent theme.
-
The list of topics should comprise a significant learning unit, i.e., in the end, the learner should have learned something significant.
-
The sequence of chapters should be reasonable.
Content organization
The best way to make your content understandable and easy for the learners is to divide it into different categories (Full course).
Consider it as a story that has a beginning, middle, and end; organizing your ideas in different chapters and lessons will help you maintain the logical flow.
Add an introductory chapter/lesson at the beginning for your course/mini-course respectively. After explaining all the concepts, add a concluding chapter (full course) or lesson (mini-course).
Add a category
Go to the teach page to create a course by pressing the Create button on the bottom of the sidebar and select Course from the options. After giving a title to your course and adding all the required information, start adding categories to create an outline for the course.
A category is essentially a chapter that can have lessons in it. To create a category you simply have to click the “Add Category” button on the Collection Editor page.
Add a lesson
To add a lesson, click on the “Add Lesson” button which is right next to add category button.
To add more lessons to a category, we have the following method:
Next up, we will explore the different course modes.
