Trace Where Data Persists in AI Workflows
Explore how data persists in AI workflows across chat histories, file uploads, and connected systems. Learn to trace sensitive details through various paths, assess authorization for data use, and apply minimization methods to reduce exposure. This lesson equips you to identify persistence risks, verify authorized environments, and make informed decisions before using AI tools with sensitive information.
Redaction often gets treated like a permission slip. A team removes names and internal IDs, then assumes any AI tool is safe. That mistake comes from focusing on what the text looks like on screen, not where the remaining text will travel. A redacted incident summary can still carry unique identifiers. A ticket number, a host naming pattern, a unit location, or a distinctive system nickname can still point back to people or operations. Redaction can reduce exposure, but it cannot change the environment the data enters. Removing or omitting classification markings does not declassify information. If content may be classified, stop the transfer and consult the appropriate security authority.
