What to expect

Overview

The Edpresso Technical Writing Workshop is meant to be a collaborative writing experience in which you, the author, work with our review team to produce your best work. In this lesson, we will go over what to expect during this workshop.

Topic selection

One of the scariest parts of writing is getting started. Sometimes, even thinking about what you want to write can be overwhelming. At Edpresso, we want to make sure that we curb any stress that may surround the writing process. So, we strongly encourage you to write on a topic from our Edpresso Trello board. If you do not find a topic of interest, you can always suggest one that you would like to write on.

Keep reading to find out how Edpresso as a curated site affects topics.

Edpresso is a curated site that only publishes one shot per topic, meaning we only publish shots on new topics that are not yet published on Edpresso and of high quality and value.

Therefore, each topic present on our Trello board has been hand-picked by the Edpresso team, so you can be assured that your topic is unique and not yet present on Edpresso.

How to use the Trello board

The Trello board has 3 columns:

  • Can be claimed: This column contains topics that are available to write on.
  • Claimed: The topics in this column have already been claimed and cannot be written on.
  • FAQ links: This column contains resources to help you write your shot and use Edpresso, such as these guidelines!

There are 3 steps to using the Trello board:

  1. Pick a topic from the column “Can be claimed.” Here you will find all the available topics for this workshop.

What happens after you submit your shot?

In the following lesson, we will go over how to use Edpresso and submit a shot. However, in this lesson, we will give you a rundown of what to expect during this workshop.

  1. The first step in the review process is to check every shot for plagiarism. As per the Edpresso guidelines, we do not accept any content that is not originally owned by the submitter. Any shot containing over 5% plagiarism will be considered plagiarized. If your shot contains plagiarism, you will receive an email from an Edpresso manager outlining the amount of plagiarism found, the sources, and a text match that highlights where the plagiarism is found in your shot. You will be given an opportunity to rephrase and re-submit your shot.

Please review our guidelines on plagiarism versus paraphrasing.

  1. Once you submit your shot and it has been checked for plagiarism, your shot will be sent to our review team. It will undergo a content review and a proofreading review.

    • A content review means that your shot will be checked by our technical content engineers for technical accuracy and correctness.
    • A proofreading review means that our proofreading team will edit your shot for grammatical errors, clarity, sentence structure, and design layout.
  2. Between March 1st-4th you will receive an email containing your review document. It is important to note that as a part of the review process, participants are expected to engage with the edits sent to them. This means that if you disagree with the review, you may refute them by providing logical reasons as to why you disagree. Otherwise, you are expected to make the changes outlined in your review document.

  3. Re-submissions are due on March 8th with all the edits incorporated.

  4. If further edits are needed or if all the edits have not been incorporated, you will receive another email by March 11th outlining these edits.

  5. Final submissions are due March 14th.

If you do not make the changes outlined in your review document before the final deadline on March 14th your shot will not be published and you will be disqualified from the workshop.

  1. On March 15th the Edpresso team will publish all shots.
  2. Panel review.

Panel review

This Edpresso Technical Writing Workshop will be judged by a panel of judges. Each shot will be judged based on the following parameters:

  • Readability: The shot should be easy to understand and the content is organized logically.
  • Content: The shot content is accurate, correct, and properly structured.
  • Design: The shot contains at least 2 interactive elements (code widget, image, flowchart, or diagram). The shot looks pleasant to the eye.
  • Edpresso standards: The content follows the Edpresso standards outlined in the workshop style guide and all edits have been correctly made.
