What is an Edpresso shot?

What is an Edpresso shot?

Here we will briefly highlight some of the things we do and don’t want to see in an Edpresso shot.

What is an Edpresso shot?

A good Edpresso shot adds value and is:

  1. Short: Takes 3-5 minutes to read. It’s okay if your read time is over 5 minutes as long as everything in the shot is covered appropriately and there is no unnecessary information present.

  2. Highly technical: Content explains the topic simply and without any personal opinion (no “you” language).

  3. Engaging: Shots should be visually captivating, but all visual elements must enhance your content.

  4. High Quality: Edpresso content should be well-written with at least one runnable code widget when applicable.

  5. Written: All shot content is written so that learners can interact with Edpresso shots at their own pace. We do not accept shots with videos.

  6. Standalone: Every shot can be understood without navigating away from the shot page. This means external links are not allowed unless they are linking to:

    • other Edpresso shots
    • official documentation

Edpresso shot versus blog post: Know the difference

When you write a shot, make sure that you’re not actually writing a blog post:

Edpresso shots:

  • Short
  • On one particular topic (ex: “How to append a column to DataFrame in pandas”)
  • Deals with facts and does not include the author’s opinion

Educative blog post:

  • Long
  • Covers multiple topics in one place
  • Deals with any topic that is valid within the tech community (e.g., culture, announcements, interview help, etc.)

What we don’t accept on Edpresso

If you submit a shot with any of the following qualities, your shot will not be published. So, in order to make sure your shot gets published:

  • Don’t submit a shot that has been copied from someplace else.

Every article we receive is run through the Grammarly plagiarism checker. Educative’s technical content review team will additionally copy and paste a few lines of your shot into Google to make sure no plagiarism was missed.

Any shot that is non-original or has a plagiarism percentage above 5% will not be published. However, we will allow you to rephrase your shot and re-submit. As long as your shot has a plagiarism percentage of 5% or lower, it will be published (for more information, click here).

  • Don’t submit a shot that contains your personal opinion
  • Don’t submit a shot that is not interactive (i.e., does not include any widgets, illustration, or diagrams)
  • Don’t submit a shot that contains a video
  • Don’t submit a shot that is longer than a 5-minute read time
