Setting Up a Google Play Store Account

Learn to create a Google Play Developer account.

Google Play Store

The Google Play Store is a platform where Android users discover, download, and install applications for their use. We need a Google Play Developer account to be able to publish and distribute apps on the Google Play Store.

Having a Google Play Developer account allows us to do the following:

  • Publish Android apps on the Play Store.

  • Distribute published apps to users across the globe or in specific countries.

  • Generate revenue from publishing paid apps or offering in-app purchases.

  • Get valuable insights on the app’s performance, such as download statistics, user reviews, and revenue data.

  • Make app updates to provide bug fixes or feature enhancements.

Creating a Google Play Developer account

We need to have a developer account to publish our app to Google Play. We’ll be required to pay a one-time fee. To create a Google Play Developer account, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Google Play Console. Sign in using your existing Google account. If prompted to create a developer account, turn on 2-step verification.

  2. Create an account for yourself by clicking on the “Get started” button. Choose the “Yourself” account type.

  3. Read the requirements to create an account, then click the “Continue” button.

  4. Fill in your “developer name” and click the “Next” button.

  5. Link your “payment profile” or create a new one, then click the “Next” button.

  6. Fill in your “Public Developer Profile” and then click the “Next” button.

  7. Fill in your details on the “About you” page and click the “Next” button at the bottom of the page.

  8. Fill out the “Apps” section and then click “Next.” This section gathers information on the kind of apps you will publish.

  9. Fill in your “contact details” and then click “Next” at the bottom of the page. This section collects information required by Google to contact you.

  10. Read and accept the “Developer Distribution Agreement and Terms of Service.” Click “Create account and pay” at the bottom of the page to complete the account creation.

  11. Add your card details and pay the one-time registration fee.
