Introduction to Probability

Learn the basics of probability, joint probability, conditional probability, independence, and Bayes' theorem.

This lesson discusses some basic concepts on discrete probability, which are also the basis for many of the techniques we will learn further in the course.

What is probability?

Probability is used to capture the chances, in numerical terms, of how likely it is that a certain event happens. For instance, if the probability that a player purchases an item G in some game is 0.7, it would be denoted as G = True, which is an event (in contrast with the event purchases item G = False) and 0.7 (or 70%) is the chance of it happening.
