Course Structure

An overview of how the content is arranged throughout the course.

We'll cover the following

Are you ready to start learning about DevOps and Azure?

In this course, you will get an introduction to each tool. Each tool in this course will be covered in a single chapter. In other words, you can pick up on any chapter and hit the ground running.

Each chapter will have two areas we focus on: understanding and doing (Project). Each of these areas will have one or more sections within them.

Understanding the tool

The first area of each chapter in this course will focus on traditional learning by explaining concepts and conveying information to give you a solid foundation to build on. For the first part, we informally call the understanding sections to answer questions like:

  • What is this tool?
  • What’s it good for?
  • What does it do?
  • What components make up this tool?

You will not see demos or tutorials in the first few sections. Even though we firmly believe you learn by doing, you must crawl before you can run!

The project

The second part of each chapter is where you get your hands dirty. Each chapter will contain a project that you may find yourself neck-deep in at some point in your career. Each chapter’s project is designed in a step-by-step manner to walk you through using the tool just as you would in your daily life as a DevOps ninja.

You will see that each project contains:

  • A Project Overview section: This section covers what you will be building and a summary of each step that you’ll need to get there.

  • A Tools to Have section: Because you are expected to get hands-on with each project, you will always see a “Tools to Have” section, which will explain all of the prerequisites you need to have before beginning each project.

  • Various step sections: In the remaining sections, the rubber will meet the road. We’ll be walking through a series of steps, each building upon the other. In these sections, you will not only walk through steps but also gain more context and insight on what exactly you’re doing. You won’t find “do this, do that” stuff here without plenty of context and reasons why.

Even though you’re encouraged to read through the understanding sections, you may skip right to the project in each chapter if you wish.

If you’re reading this course from cover to cover, good luck and Godspeed. If you manage to make it through each chapter in this course, you will be well prepared to start your DevOps journey.
