The Roles in Onboarding

Who Is Involved in Onboarding?

There are three types of users involved in Onboarding:

  1. Manager

  2. Mentor

  3. Team Member

Manager

A Manager is an employee who oversees the Onboarding of their cohort, and they can:

  • Create and edit Paths.
  • Assign Paths to Mentors and Team Members.
  • Track the progress of all Team Members.
  • View and resolve the blockers raised by all Team Members.

Mentor

Mentors are directly responsible for assisting and mentoring the Team Members who have joined the company. They are assigned to Team Members by the Manager. Mentors can:

  • Create and edit Paths.
  • Track the progress of their Team Members only.
  • View and resolve the blockers raised by their Team Members only.

Note: There can only be one Mentor per Path for a Team Member.

Team Member

Team Members are your new hires. They directly work with their Mentors and reach out to them for any help. Team Members can:

  • Raise blockers or ask for help from their Mentors.

  • Read and mark as complete the individual Tasks of the Path, which counts towards their Path completion).

  • Create their own Paths.

Fluidity in Roles

  • Managers can also be Mentors simultaneously. They could look after a particular group of Team Members directly as a Mentor.

  • Managers can also be Team Members simultaneously; a Customer Support Manager may be learning all about front-end development and would be assigned a Path, thereby becoming a Team Member.

  • Similarly, Mentors can also become Team Members in another Path.

FAQs

  • Does a Manager have access to all Team Members’ progress in the subscription?

    • Yes. A Manager in the Educative subscription can track and see the progress of all the Team Members. They also receive any appropriate notifications.
  • Can there be multiple Mentors per Path?

    • No. Currently, we allow only one Mentor per Path to ensure that there is a single person who is responsible for every Team Member’s Onboarding experience.
    • Managers, however, can still track the progress of all Team Members and can always jump in to resolve any Team Member’s blockers.
  • Do Team Members, Mentors, and Managers take up seats in the Educative subscription?

    • Yes. All the roles mentioned above take up a seat. The great news is that every user would then have access to not only Onboarding but also Educative’s Learning and Development platform.
