Expand Guardrails into Responsible-AI Safeguards
Explore how to map responsible AI requirements into guardrail configurations within AWS Bedrock, focusing on sensitive information filters and contextual grounding checks. Understand how to enforce and test these safeguards, apply them without invoking models, and protect AI applications with IAM policies to maintain privacy, security, and accuracy in customer-facing generative AI solutions.
The previous lesson introduced the Amazon Bedrock Guardrails policy types (content filters, denied topics, word filters, sensitive information filters, and contextual grounding checks) and showed that guardrails are versioned and can protect both model calls and agent responses. Knowing the policy types is the first step. The engineering task is to turn an application’s responsible-AI requirements into a guardrail configuration, apply it at the right points in the request flow, and prove that every call goes through it.
This lesson maps responsible-AI requirements to guardrail policies, then configures the two policies that customer-facing RAG applications rely on most: sensitive information filters and contextual grounding checks. It then shows how to apply the same guardrail without invoking a Bedrock model, and how to enforce its use with an IAM condition key.
The diagram below shows where a guardrail checks traffic in a RAG assistant and in front of a model hosted outside Amazon Bedrock. ...
