Artboards are printable or exportable regions in your Adobe Illustrator. You can create artboards from preset sizes or define your own custom artboard size. Typical uses of multiple artboards include creating PDF documents, organizing a workspace, or isolating individual elements for other programs like Adobe After Effects.

You can have multiple artboards per document depending on the size of your artboards. You can create, resize or remove them as you need to with the Artboard tool.

You can create a new artboard in the following ways:

  • Create a custom artboard by selecting the Artboard tool and dragging an area on the document of your desired shape and size at your desired location.
  • Create a preset artboard or give exact artboard dimensions by double-clicking the Artboard tool. On the dialog box, set your preferred settings and click ‘OK’.
  • To duplicate an existing artboard with the contents, select the Artboard tool and hold the ‘alt’ (Windows) or ‘options’ (macOS) button and then drag to where you want it to be.
  • You can duplicate an existing artboard without the contents by selecting the artboard with the Artboard tool and clicking the New Artboard button in the Properties or Control panel.
