As your data grows, storing large amounts of infrequently accessed information in Amazon S3 can become expensive, especially when you need to keep it for long periods. S3 Glacier storage classes provide a more cost-effective solution for long-term storage that will help you reduce storage costs while still ensuring you can retrieve data when necessary. Depending on access frequency and urgency, these classes provide tiered access options that accommodate retrieval times from minutes to hours or days.
In this Cloud Lab, you’ll learn how to store your archives using the S3 Glacier storage classes. You’ll start by creating an S3 bucket and using it to store data in S3 Glacier Storage classes. You’ll then explore leveraging Amazon S3 life cycle policies to transition data from standard S3 classes to S3 Glacier classes. After that, you’ll move on to the S3 Glacier Vaults. You’ll create a vault and try to store an archive in it. You’ll then learn how to secure access to these vaults using the Vault Access Policy and Vault Lock. The last part of the Cloud Lab will focus on how to fetch objects stored in these vaults.
After completing this Cloud Lab, you can effectively utilize S3 Glacier for cost-efficient long-term storage solutions. This knowledge will empower you to optimize storage costs while ensuring compliance and security for your archived data.
