Technical leader with experience from software development to building and managing software teams. Author of several programming books
I have over 30 years experience as a software developer and technical leader. I've spent the last decade working at startups, starting early and helping to scale the technology and team. Most recently, I was chief software architect at Stitch Fix, where I helped the engineering team grown from 3 to over 100, go through an IPO and an international expansion. I wrote a lot of code during that team in addition to managing people and projects. I am particularly interested in how technology can be used to help a business grow and thrive. I don't like tech for its own sake, and always look for pragmatic solutions that provide value and allow a team to remain nimble and adaptive. I'm doing just that as CTO of mental health startup Mood Health, removing inefficiencies and roadblocks to the company's ability to scale its delivery of treatment for anxiety and depression. I've also written books targeted at software developers. The Senior Software Engineer outlines everything you need to be successful—other than writing code. Sustainable Web Development with Ruby on Rails is a compendium of pragmatic practices to grow a Rails application without making a huge mess.
