An FDE rarely carries an engagement alone. Before an FDE writes the first line of code inside a customer’s systems, other people at Anthropic have qualified the customer, agreed on what the engagement should deliver, and planned how its value will be measured. While the FDE builds, others manage the schedule, the stakeholders, and the relationship with the customer’s executives.
This structure explains much of how the FDE role works. It shows which decisions an FDE makes alone, which ones the FDE shapes with others, and where the FDE’s field knowledge goes once an engagement ends.
