The success creates a new kind of pressure, because the bank starts asking what else the system could do.

In Anthropic’s FDE loop, this is a moment interviewers like to create. After a design discussion, an interviewer may step into the customer’s role and push for something the design should not do. The same pressure appears in the values round and in pushback during the final panel. The interviewer is watching whether we can hold a boundary for the right reasons while keeping the customer on our side.

The request

Most clean applications get approved anyway. When Claude finds no inconsistencies on a loan under $5,000, can it just approve it? The flags have been accurate in testing, and that would free up hours of underwriter time every day, especially in January.

Nothing about the request is careless. The goal is real, the volume pressure is real, and the head of consumer lending is the engagement’s sponsor. A response that treats the request as obviously wrong would damage trust with the person whose support the project depends on.
