The Interview Loop Overview

Explore the complete interview process for Anthropic's Forward Deployed Engineer role. Learn how each round tests different skills from motivation, deployment reasoning, and coding, to system design and values. Understand how to connect preparation across rounds for stronger results and handle ambiguity while emphasizing safety and collaboration.

Anthropic’s interview loop for Forward Deployed Engineers tests the role from several directions. One round checks motivation and fit, another checks how we reason about deploying Claude, another checks how we write code under changing requirements, and later rounds probe past projects, system design, and values. Each round looks at a different slice of the same job.

Preparing round by round without the full map tends to produce uneven results. A strong coding session can sit next to a vague answer about why we want the role, or a polished design next to a values conversation we never practiced. Seeing the whole loop first shows how the rounds connect and where one round’s preparation strengthens another.

The map starts with the job itself, because every round tests some part of it.
