Engineering Reliable State Logic for AI Features
Learn how to manage state, validation, and reliability in AI features across streaming, structured outputs, tool calls, retries, and evaluation.
- Ace AI-Driven UI DevelopmentDevelop user interfaces that leverage AI capabilities while ensuring safe rendering and effective state management.
- Implement Robust Error HandlingDesign and apply error recovery strategies in dynamic chat UIs, enhancing user experience during failures.
- Optimize Streaming Output ManagementEffectively manage streaming structured output to maintain coherent and responsive UI states in real-time applications.
- Explain the Deterministic vs. Probabilistic Trade-offReason clearly about how streaming, probabilistic output changes UI design decisions.
Naeem ul Haq is the co-founder and CTO of Educative, a hands-on learning platform for software engineers. Before co-founding Educative, he spent seven years as a software engineer at Microsoft, where he worked on the Windows Azure Fabric Controller, a core component of what became Microsoft Azure, and on Remote Desktop for Windows Server. Naeem co-founded Educative in 2015 alongside his brother Fahim to make developer education more interactive and accessible. His courses on Educative cover cloud technologies and full-stack web development, drawing directly from his experience building production infrastructure at Microsoft.

What You'll Learn
- Understand how a streaming, probabilistic AI response differs from a normal API response, and what that means for state.
- Learn to model a chat turn as a state machine, with clear states for stopping, regenerating, and failing, so no failure is hidden.
- Learn to validate structured JSON output before anything trusts it, and to fall back safely when validation fails.
- Explore how to model tool-calling workflows as a state machine and persist multi-turn state so conversations can resume without re-executing completed actions.
- Learn to classify errors and apply time-outs, retries, and rate limits that keep failures visible.
- Get familiar with logs and lightweight evaluation tests that make reliability measurable, and with cost and latency trade-offs as product constraints.
