The Scrum team

A Scrum team is a cross-functional group of individuals who work together to deliver a product or service. They're responsible for planning, designing, building, testing, and delivering a product increment. Some attributes of a Scrum team include:

  • Cross-functional: A Scrum team consists of individuals with a diverse range of skills, including development, design, testing, and product management.

  • Self-organizing: Scrum teams have the autonomy to make decisions about how to best deliver value to stakeholders.

  • Collaborative: Scrum teams work together to solve complex problems and deliver value to stakeholders.

  • Focused on delivering value: The primary goal of a Scrum team is to deliver value to stakeholders, and they continuously assess and adjust their work to ensure they are delivering the maximum amount of value.

  • Accountable: Scrum teams succeed as a team, or fail as a team. The effort is expected to be collaborative, and individuals are not singled out.

Roles and responsibilities of a Scrum team

In a Scrum team, there are three main roles: the product owner, the developers, and the scrum master.

  1. The product owner is responsible for defining the product backlog, which is a prioritized list of work and potential work for the product. The product owner also sets the priorities for the product team and is the primary point of contact for stakeholders.

  2. The developers are responsible for delivering the product increment, which is a usable and potentially shippable piece of software or product. The product team is self-organizing and has the autonomy to make decisions about how best to deliver value.

  3. The scrum master is responsible for facilitating the Scrum process, removing obstacles that are blocking the developers, and ensuring that the Scrum framework is being followed. The scrum master also facilitates communication and collaboration between the product owner and the developers.
