AWS Global Infrastructure

Learn about AWS Global Infrastructure and key terminology.

AWS is a globally available platform that has data centers across the world. AWS Regions, AZs, and edge locations are the backbone of the AWS ecosystem.

Note: For the scope of this exam, you should know about AWS Regions, Availability Zones (AZs), and edge locations. AWS Local Zones and regional edge caches are also included in this course.

Regions

An AWS Region is a geographical location somewhere in the world where AWS has a cluster of two or more data centers. Data centers in a region are entirely isolated from the other areas, so a failure in Region 1 doesn’t affect services in Region 2.
