AWS Systems Manager

AWS Systems Manager (SSM) (formerly known as Simple Systems Manager) allows us to remotely manage and configure multiple EC2 instances and on-site servers. It provides various tools and capabilities, such as executing commands and scripts, overseeing software and patching, and monitoring system inventory and performance data.

SSM seamlessly integrates with other AWS services, such as CloudWatch and Config, to provide a comprehensive approach to managing your infrastructure. It enables the management of virtually any machine, whether on AWS (EC2 instances), on-site servers, or VMs hosted on other cloud providers, as long as they have a reachable SSM agent and run a supported OS:

  • Linux
  • macOS
  • Raspberry Pi OS (also known as Raspbian)
