Reviewing the Default Hosted Zone

Learn about hosted zones and DNS settings for domains on AWS.

After registering a domain, AWS will automatically create a hosted zone for our new custom domain. The hosted zone contains a set of default records for domains registered with AWS, so let’s take a look at them and their meaning.

To get there, we can open the Route 53 dashboard in the AWS Console. It should now show “1 Hosted zone” and “1 Domain” (assuming we haven’t registered any other domains yet).

  • Please click “1 Hosted zone” to open the hosted zone page.

  • We should see the hosted zones dashboard now.

  • If we click on the domain name (wpblog.click in this example), we'll see a list of records for this hosted zone.
