In May 2023, the AdoraHack Study Groups rebranded to NexaScale. While the AdoraHack Study Groups is a space for newbies to learn and collaborate on technical topics like Frontend Engineering, DevOps, Data Science, and more, NexaScale is a social enterprise that strives to make work experience and career growth accessible to everyone.

Educative Answers has partnered with NexaScale to provide programs and accessible text-based courses for the NexaScale community.

What is NexaScale? #

NexaScale was started by Adora Nwodo.

Born and raised in Nigeria, Adora observed how challenging it is for individuals seeking entry-level positions in Africa to secure jobs, even if they have acquired the necessary training and certifications. Due to the limited opportunities available or a need for income, people often end up in a different role than they have experience in. NexaScale was created to tackle this issue.

NexaScale is open to anyone, anywhere, and provides resources and opportunities for individuals to build their skills so they can succeed in the tech industry.

NexaScale community members receive access to internships, exciting job opportunities, courses, and workshops. Members are presented with and encouraged to take part in opportunities to build projects and participate in programs to enrich their portfolio and increase employment opportunities.

NexaScale’s main goal is to create and run programs that facilitate career growth in STEM fields. Currently, NexaScale offers 4 programs that cater to the various needs of the community:

  1. NexaScale Study Groups is a virtual community where members can connect, learn, share projects, and get their technical questions answered. This program offers bi-weekly sessions where industry experts speak with the community. The tracks within this program include Frontend Engineering, Backend Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Data Science, Data Structures and Algorithms, Cyber Security, and Mobile Engineering.

  2. NexaScale Cloud Mentorship is a 4-week program for entry-level cloud engineers. This free program mentors participants as they learn about Cloud Engineering and Cloud Security. Participants will also be guided on how to build a portfolio and prepare for interviews. Participants will come out of this program with multiple projects and a developed resume.

  3. NexaScale Apprenticeship Program connects members to job opportunities and work experience to grow their industry knowledge and advance in their fields.

  4. Future STEM Stars is a partnership with Katwig & Dale, who visit secondary schools to talk to young girls about careers in STEM. This program also has volunteers who mentor young girls and provide them with the necessary support.

NexaScale’s community is open to anyone! If any of these programs interest you, head to their sign-up form!

Partnership with Educative Answers#

Educative has recently partnered with NexaScale via Educative Answers to provide NexaScale community members with opportunities to improve their writing and communication skills.

Educative Answers is a free web encyclopedia written for developers by developers. Content published on Educative Answers is short and specific, with each article only focusing on one concept. All articles published on Educative Answers follow the best practices of Technical Writing, and contributors are pushed to improve the quality and cohesiveness of their writing using technical writing best practices.

The Educative Answers program provides contributors with feedback on their writing and works with all contributors to improve the quality and cohesiveness of their writing.

Educative x NexaScale Partnership#

Educative Answers and NexaScale are both community-based programs serving our community members. NexaScale provides programs to help members Scale their career, and Educative Answers provides members with professional writing and communication experience.
Throughout 2023, Educative Answers will be running 4 different programs specifically for the NexaScale community to help community members strengthen their communication muscle by working to refine their technical writing and public speaking skills.

Technical Writing Workshop#

The Technical Writing Workshop was created to provide in-depth writing help for developers. Educative started the workshop after recognizing that there needed to be more writing support for people who have chosen to go into a technical career.

Strong writing skills are important when communicating ideas clearly, sounding confident, and leveraging technical skills. While not all developers love to write, all developers need to write. Strong writing skills ensure that any code comments, bug reports, one-pagers, or blogs you write will be clear, comprehensive, and [if necessary] convincing.

The Technical Writing Workshop is a 4-week intensive writing program. Participants learn to research, outline, write, review, and publish 1 technical article. Although the program is primarily self-led, participants are guided through the writing process by Educative’s team of technical content and editorial reviewers.

“In an increasingly digital world, technical writing is one of the most necessary skills that we need to have.” -Vishal Pallerla

Communication workshop#

Public Speaking can be challenging to master. That’s why we have paired with NexaScale to run a Communication Workshop to help participants develop strong public speaking skills to ace their next interview (technical or behavioral) or presentation. Over 4-weeks, participants will write 1 technical article and present it as a technical “lightning” talk. This workshop will include 2 presentations on best practices for public speaking. All participants will present their published articles as part of a series of community meetups held directly after the workshop.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity for technical people who want to advance into roles with more public speaking responsibilities, such as a managerial or leadership position, or just want to gain confidence! This workshop is also perfect for anyone who dreads public speaking and wants to overcome that fear.

Sign-ups are not yet open for this program.

Widget Workshop#

The Widget Workshop is a more advanced version of the Technical Writing Workshop that pushes participants to, not just communicate their ideas statically with text, but to also show their ideas using Educative’s variety of executable code widgets. On the Educative platform, all code can be made executable using one of our many executable code widgets or by using Docker to create a virtual environment on the Educative platform. Over this 4-week Widget Workshop, participants are introduced to the Docker-use case utilized by Educative.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity for anyone who would like to begin or continue exploring the different use cases of Docker!

Sign-ups are not yet open for this program.

Communication Apprenticeship#

The communication apprenticeship is a more extended, 3-month program that combines all three workshops (Technical Writing, Communication, and Widget) into one master class on communication.

This apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity if you want to improve your all-around communication skills and work within a single discipline to learn how to communicate your ideas in both written, spoken, and visual formats – this program is for you!

Sign-ups are not yet open for this program.

We are excited to partner with NexaScale to run these community events during 2023 and participate in what NexaScale is doing to create and run programs that facilitate career growth in STEM fields!

If there are no programs dedicated to providing the “next generation” of developers with resources today, there may be no “next generation” tomorrow.

To get involved in any of these programs, head to NexaScale’s sign-up form. Once you join, you will have access to all of NexaScale’s programs!
